April 2010
Dear Alumni and Friends,
Let me
tell you an old story. The year was 1900. John A. Davis
was preaching in Elmira, New York. After a meeting he
was approached by a humble washerwoman named Mrs. L. A. Crossan. She had received a one dollar bill unexpectedly
(the approximate equivalent of $25 today), and prayed
that it would be used for God's glory. After hearing
Davis preach a sermon about building upon a solid
foundation from Matthew 7:24-27, Crossan found the
purpose for her dollar bill. She presented it to Davis
with the following note: "I am a poor washerwoman but
God has laid it on my hear to give you this dollar bill
to help you carry out the plan He has revealed to you."

Crossan had no idea that only days before Davis had been
burdened with the need for a Bible school on the East
Coast similar to the Moody Bible Institute, where Davis
had studied under the guidance of Dwight L. Moody. God
used Crossan to quietly confirm that which had been
impressed upon Davis's heart and mind.

This
is a story of faith and obedience. One dollar was
sacrificially given. One man's obedience led him to
serve the Lord. One humble confirmation of God's plan
for a school of ministry that has held true for 110
years. The story is evidence of God's blessing on a
special school with a unique purpose built upon a sold
foundation of biblical higher education.

The
story continues... help us write the next chapter as our
future dreams become reality.
Today
I invite you to join us in celebrating God's goodness
over the past 110 years. Mrs. Crossan's gift is evidence
that whatever you give -- from a dollar, to twenty-five
dollars or twenty-five thousand dollars -- your gift
will continue the work of educating men and women for
service to Jesus Christ through accredited biblical
higher education. The heart of Davis College is
ministry. The foundation is biblical higher education
based on the truth of God's Word. The 110-year
anniversary of Davis College is a wonderful reality for
which we thank the Lord.

This
year Davis College will provide $350,000 in
institutional scholarships to men and women preparing
for professional ministry and marketplace careers around
the world. Your gift today will help us keep accredited
biblical higher education affordable. We have raised
$249,000 to date; your generous gift today will help us
fill the gap of $100,000 needed to reach the $350,000
goal by the close of our fiscal year on June 30th.

Your
gift today win any amount will build a lasting legacy
into the lives of our students. your support helps us
continue telling the story of Davis College. More
importantly, your financial support equips
servant-leaders who will tell the timeless Gospel story
to the next generation. My colleague Dan Rathmell has
introduced the principle of "Five Loaves and Two Fish"
with our alumni -- whatever the size of the gift, God
will bless it when used for His glory. I know you agree.
Our students agree.By the way, Mrs. Crossan and Dr.
Davis would joyfully agree. Than kyou for your gift.
In
Calvary's Love,
Dr.
Dino J. Pedrone, President
