STUDENT SUCCESS

STUDENT SUCCESS ASSESSMENT RESULTS

Davis College uses IPEDS Retention, Graduation and Transfer-Out Rates, Average B.R.E. Graduate Cumulative GPA, an institution-specific question on the biennial Noel Levitz Student Satisfaction Index, and post-graduation employment data as our indicators of student success.

IPEDS Retention, Graduation, and Transfer-Out Rates and Anecdotal Post-Graduation Employment Data can be found in the Student Right to Know Act Statistics Accordion on https://davisny.edu/consumer-information/.

Through BRE Graduate Average Cumulative GPA

The outcome target for BRE Graduate Cumulative GPA is 3.0 or higher. Despite differences in the position of the school and the student populations between 2019 and 2023, the achievement of preparing students for the College’s mission, as assessed through average cumulative GPA’s of BRE Graduates, is exceeding expectations.

Through Noel-Levitz Student Satisfaction Index

The college has run the Noel-Levitz Student Satisfaction Index biennially since 2006. In 2018, we chose to use the following campus-specific question in the SSI as our primary indirect measure of our Student Success: Campus item: Davis College achieves its mission by preparing me with the knowledge, character, and skills for service and leadership.

In 2018, prior to a major campus transition, students rated Davis achieving its mission through student preparation as highly important but rated our actual achievement of it much lower. Our 2021 rating was much better. Students rated Davis achieving its mission through student preparation as important and rated our actual achievement nearly as high. Noel-Levitz listed this question as a strength for Davis which means that we are exceeding expectations. In 2023, the student perception of the importance of the College achieving its mission slightly lower, but the College is achieving its mission equally to their perception of importance. The mission will be updated for the 2025 administration of this survey.

Assessment Results of Completion of Program/Concentration Outcomes:

Davis College’s General Education and Concentration-Specific Outcomes support the Institutional Learning Outcomes. Looking at the achievement rates for lower-level and upper-level courses across the general education courses and concentrations allows us to track student achievement of the ILOs as students’ progress from lower-order to higher-order requirements. The scores are the aggregate of student capstone scores in freshmen/sophomore and junior/senior courses whose Program/Concentration Outcomes support each ILO.

It is noted that for courses whose capstone assignment SLO aligns with ILO Knowledge, students in freshman/sophomore level courses are consistently achieving higher than students in junior/senior level courses. The opposite is happening in courses whose capstone assignment SLOs align with ILO Skills & Competencies. The faculty believes this is due to upper-level courses requiring a higher level of mastery and that students taking junior/senior level courses have had more opportunities to apply skills and competencies to real world experiences.

The outcome target is 85% of the students achieving an 85% or higher on course capstone assignments whose student learning objective supports the institutional learning objective. Therefore, achievement of Institutional Learning Outcomes, as assessed through achievement of Program/Concentration Outcomes, exceeded expectations in Knowledge, Christian Character and Skills & Competencies. Based on the analysis of assessment results and key performance indicators, Davis College Graduates are meeting or exceeding the achievement of our Institutional Learning Outcomes.
