The Davis College Falcons men’s basketball team kicked off their home opener with against their local rival, SUNY Broome Hornets, and ran away with a 82-68 victory on Wednesday night.

Falcons junior, Jackson Henri (Miami, FL), got the scoring going early as he connected on back to back three pointers for the home team in the first two possessions as the Falcons jumped out to a 6-0 lead and then never looked back. Using a very efficient attack on the offensive end, the Falcons poured in 52 first half points thanks to 15 assists on 21 field goals and held a 52-34 advantage going in to halftime.

The Hornets did fight back, closing the gap within 10 points on a couple of occasions in the second half but Davis College’s depth wore down them down over time as 12 different Falcons scored at least 2 baskets in the game. Reserves Derrell Calloway (Lynchburg, VA), Spencer Bath (Saratoga Springs, NY), and Duke Guo (Tang Shin Hebai, China) all had crucial baskets in a run that put the game out of reach midway through the second half. The Falcons balanced and unselfish attacked ended with 24 assists on 31 field goals.

Jackson Henri led Davis  College with 19 points and a game high 11 rebounds. Kelvin Tompkins (South Miami, FL) came off the bench to score 12 points and reigning HVIAC Player of the Week, Corban Usry (Statesville, NC), had 10 points, 4 assists, and 3 steals in the win. For the Hornets, Reginald Vaughan had a game-high 25 points.

This weekend the Falcons (2-1) head to Penn State Mont Alto for the John Benchoff Memorial Basketball Tournament. They will face the home team at 8:00 p.m. on Friday evening and then play Penn State York at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
