The Davis College Falcons volleyball team had an up and down kind of day in Saturday’s match-up with visiting Penn State Scranton Nittany Lions but ultimately picked up another win by a score of 3-1.

Davis College dominated the opening set as they didn’t let the visitors attack get going, keeping them without a single kill and winning 25-11. The Falcons’ Erica Stockwell (Norwich, NY) set the defensive tone early and often as she led the team with 32 of the team’s 91 digs in the match. In the second set it was much of the same as Linnea Sweeney (Cortland, NY) was dominant in her attack posting 5 of her match high 13 kills. However, in the third set, roles reversed as the Nittany Lions got going offensively, led by Inaya Floyd (Binghamton, NY) as the team connected on 11 kills to take the set 25-21 and cut the deficit to 2 sets to 1. The Falcons regained composure in the fourth and deciding set as they tightened up defensively and finished the visitors off 25-16.

It was a balanced stat sheet for the Falcons as Sweeney added 14 digs to go with her 13 kills. Loryn Sanders (Chambersburg, PA) dished out 22 assists, Michaela McLeod (West Milford, NJ) had 12 digs, 4 kills, and 4 service aces, Braedyn Mims (Calvert, MD) has 12 digs, 4 kills, and 3 aces of her own, and Tiffany Swan (Norwich, NY) had 4 blocks and 6 kills. The Nittany Lions were led by Floyd’s 8 kills and 14 digs while Jessica Berger had 6 kills, 6 digs, and 2 service aces.

The Falcons (7-4) last home game of the season is this Tuesday versus Cayuga Community College at 6:00 p.m. Back on September 19 the Falcons visited Cayuga and came away with a 3-0 victory.
