Men’s Basketball Comes Out Hot in Opener

The Davis College men’s basketball season started off on the right foot as they pulled away from visiting Paul Smith’s College in 93-65 victory on Saturday.

After trailing early on by a margin of 9-5, the Falcons would go on a big run over the next 12 minutes and extend a lead by as much as 23 points in the first half.  The charge was led by sophomore Jackson Henri as he put up 10 points during the run and freshman Anthony Gathings poured in 9 of his own during the stretch.  The Falcons took a 20 point lead into halftime and continued the momentum in the second half as they cruised to a 29 point win.

Sophomore Kelvin Tompkins came off the bench to put in a game high 18 points in only 18 minutes of action for Davis as Henri and Gathings both finished with 15 points in the opener.  Freshmen Ben Waterman also reached double digits in his debut with 10 points and 7 rebounds.

Kris Carroll led Paul Smith’s College with 17 points and Max Peguero added 13 points and 7 rebounds in the loss.

The Falcons hit the road for their next 6 game and start the road trip with a contest at Penn State Wilkes on Tuesday at 8:00 p.m.
