Slow Start Dooms Davis

DAVIS COLLEGE

ALBANY COLLEGE OF PHARMACY AND HEALTH SCIENCES

The Davis College Falcons found themselves in an early hole and played from behind the rest of the game and ended up dropping an HVIAC game to Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ACPHS) by the score of 75-59 on Saturday.

ACPHS jumped out to a 12-0 run in the first 4 minutes and a 25-9 lead during the first 15 minutes of the opening half.  It was a combination of good defense by ACPHS and missed opportunities by the Falcons that led to the defecit.  However, the Falcons responded after a timeout with a 15-2 run of their own in the next 3 minutes initiated by a steal and fastbreak dunk by Anthony Gathings.  That ignited the crowd and the defensive pressure by the Falcons as they caused several turnovers and turned them into fastbreak layups or open threes cutting the deficit to 27-24.  ACPHS would regain control and score the last 6 points of the half and a 33-24 advantage heading in to the break.  In the second half Davis would make several short runs but every time they would gain momentum, ACPHS responded with a big basket of their own.

ACPHS’ Alex Johnson led all scorers with 29 points on 14 of 22 shooting to go with 12 rebounds.  Jackson Henri was the only Falcon to reach double digits as Jackson Henri put in 20 points and added 8 rebounds on the afternoon.

With the loss, Davis falls to 8-11 (0-3 in HVIAC play).  ACPHS improves to 9-7 (3-2 in HVIAC play).  Next up for the Falcons is a road non-conference game against SUNY Delhi at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 30.
