Davis College Falcons headed down to Manhattan on Wednesday evening to take on the Berkeley College Knights in a HVIAC game and lost 98-72.

Despite the cold January, both teams came in on fire as the Falcons were 5-1 for the month and the Knights 5-0 to this point. However, on this night, it was the Knights that stayed hot, hitting 59% of their field goals including 11 of 21 from three point range. The Falcons, on the other hand, could not find a rhythm early on and found themselves in a quick 11-0 hole. The Falcons turned the ball over to the Knights full court pressure early and often resulting in 38 points off of turnovers for the Knights. Berkeley would go up by as many as 23 points but the Falcons would not go down quietly, thanks in large part to their activity on the offensive glass. As a team they would haul in an impressive 25 offensive boards led by 5 from AJ Holmes (Macon, Georgia) and 4 from Josiah Waterman (Savannah, NY). The Falcons kept fighting and cut the lead down to 11 with 13:36 remaining but the Knights responded and put the game out of reach down the stretch.

Holmes would lead the Falcons in scoring with 14 points and a team high 7 rebounds. Freshman Danila Belov (Moscow, Russian) came off the bench to score 12 points to go with 5 boards and Corban Usry (Statesville, NC) scored 11 points in the loss. For the Knights, Ricardo Ayuso led all scorers with 17 by making 5 of 6 three pointers and Anthony Hemmingway came off the bench to put in 13 points.

The loss puts the Falcons at 2-2 in HVIAC play and 13-6 overall this season while the Knights, who are ranked #1 in the latest USCAA coaches poll, move to 3-0 in HVIAC and 13-4 overall. Next up for the Falcons is another HVIAC contest with Vaughn College on Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
